Description
October Monthly Membership Luncheon
Speaker: Dr. Thomas L. Delworth
Senior Scientist, GFDL-NOAA
Title: Global Warming and Its Impact on US
NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) is a leading climate research laboratory that has developed high-resolution climate models that project heightened extreme precipitation levels over the northeastern United States as a result of global warming. In recent years, these findings have been supported by observations, as the region experiences a notable increase in the occurrence of more frequent and intense rainfall events in recent years.
In this talk, Dr. Delworth will delve into the scientific foundations of global warming, discuss its influences on extreme precipitation, and present climate model-based predictions in extreme precipitation over the northeastern United States for the next several decades.
