Hamilton Continues America’s 250th Anniversary Celebrations

As the nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, Mayor Jeff Martin and Hamilton Township are excited to continue to share a series of local events and initiatives designed to honor our Country and Hamilton’s deep-rooted revolutionary history.

“Hamilton has always been at the heart of the American story,” stated Mayor Martin. “Our 250th anniversary plans are about more than just a date on the calendar; they are about bringing our history to life for the next generation of Hamiltonians. From our classrooms to our parades, we are inviting the entire community to join us in this once-in-a-lifetime celebration.”

The 250th celebration will take center stage during the beloved Memorial Day traditions, with the annual Memorial Day parades in the Groveville and Nottingham communities held on the morning of Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026. The parades will feature our nation’s first leader, President George Washington, and the Department of Public Works’ annual floats, which you may notice will have a revolutionary twist this year! The parades serve as a cornerstone of the year’s festivities, honoring the sacrifices of our veterans while celebrating the enduring spirit of American independence.

Hamilton Township Public Library is joining in on the fun all year long as well! On June 23rd at 6:30 PM, the library will host an exciting evening of history, trivia, and community to kick off the Library’s America250 celebrations! Whether you’re a history buff or looking for a fun night out, there’s something for everyone! Mayor Martin will be a special guest on the panel. Additionally, the Library will be offering free viewings of the celebrated phenomenon that transformed Broadway forever – Hamilton! July 8th at 6 PM will feature the Broadway Showing and July 11th at 1 PM will feature a Sing Along. Costumes are highly encouraged, whether you don a full 18th-century colonial outfit, your favorite Hamilton merchandise, or simply your best Schuyler Sister aesthetic!

Mark your calendars for the Township’s annual Independence Day Fireworks and Concert celebrations on Wednesday, July 1st ! The community is invited to come together for an unforgettable evening of music, patriotism, and celebration starting at 5:30 PM. Guests will enjoy a live concert featuring performances by NJ Fife and Drum and The Best of the Eagles. The evening’s fireworks display will begin at approximately 9:30 PM, lighting up the night sky in a patriotic tribute to the nation’s 250 years of independence.

To mark the historic year, the Township created an interactive activity book. The Hamilton Explorers booklet, available on our website to print at home, is an exciting adventure through Hamilton's past. As you complete each section, you'll not only learn fascinating facts but also unlock fun activities that bring history to life. Once completed, bring your completed booklet to the Mayor’s Office or any of the Township’s annual events to receive your official certificate of achievement.

Additional events and activities will be announced as the year progresses. Residents are encouraged to bookmark HamiltonNJ.com/250th and follow Hamilton Township on social media for updates.
