Hamilton Announces Plans for America's 250th Anniversary: History, Parades, and Community Pride!

As the nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, Mayor Jeff Martin and Hamilton Township are excited to announce a series of local events and initiatives designed to honor our Country and Hamilton’s deep-rooted revolutionary history.

“Hamilton has always been at the heart of the American story,” stated Mayor Martin. “Our 250th anniversary plans are about more than just a date on the calendar; they are about bringing our history to life for the next generation of Hamiltonians. From our classrooms to our parades, we are inviting the entire community to join us in this once in a lifetime celebration.”

In a special partnership with the Hamilton Township School District, the Township is proud to present a “living history” program for local students. A professional President George Washington reenactor will visit elementary schools throughout the school district, offering students a firsthand look at the leadership and challenges of the Revolutionary era. This immersive educational experience aims to inspire young residents by connecting them directly to the founding of our nation.

The 250th celebration will take center stage during the beloved Memorial Day traditions, with the annual Groveville and Nottingham communities’ Memorial Day parades being held on the morning of Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026. The parades will feature the Department of Public Works’ annual floats, which you may notice will have a revolutionary twist this year! The parades serve as a cornerstone of the year’s festivities honoring the sacrifices of our veterans while celebrating the enduring spirit of American independence.

Furthering the Township’s commitment to a lasting legacy, the Hamilton Township Shade Tree Commission is spearheading a special “250 Trees for 250 Years” initiative. Throughout the year, the Commission will work with our Planning Division to oversee the planting of 250 new trees across the community. This green initiative serves as a living tribute to our nation’s milestone, ensuring that the spirit of growth and renewal continues to flourish in Hamilton.

To mark the historic year, the Township will release a limited-edition collectible ornament. Featuring Hamilton’s own 250th anniversary branding, the ornament will be available for purchase later this spring. Proceeds will support the Hamilton Township Patriotic Committee, allowing residents to own a small piece of Hamilton history.

This is only the beginning of Hamilton’s “America 250” calendar. Additional events and activities will be announced as the year progresses. Residents are encouraged to bookmark HamiltonNJ.com/250th and follow Hamilton Township on social media for updates.
